Over the next few weeks (and possibly beyond), Damn Cheek Artistic Director Darren Cheek will co-present a new online series of interviews with our friends at Relational Spaces. Called My Other Self, these free live Zoom interviews will explore the ‘other lives’ of people now working as counsellors and psychotherapists: from pop stars to ex-Rambert dancers, from actors to Bollywood writers.
Each interview will last 20 to 30 minutes and will be followed by questions from the live Zoom audience.
In Episode 1 – Polyphonic Overtones – integrating the song of the pop star and therapist – Darren interviews counsellor Manda Glanfield about her previous ‘other’ life in the music industry.
In the late 1980s, Manda found herself, along with a couple of fellow music-loving and nightclubbing friends, signing a record contract as part of The Beatmasters – a dance/pop music artist and production combo who released a handful of records over the next few years, some of which became Top 40 hits.
So join Darren and Manda as they explore what Manda’s experience back then brings to her current life as a therapist.
Meanwhile, to whet your appetite, check out one of Darren’s favourite Beatmasters tracks (feat. Betty Boo):
