I’ve seen Diary of a Madman twice now and am booked in and looking forward to my third viewing.
Darren plays a ‘madman’ scarily well (!) and his acting is superb throughout, creating a performance that is dark and disturbing. I admit to being genuinely unsettled by how so-called normality changed to insanity so quickly over the course of the play.
I particularly enjoyed how Zoom added an extra layer to the performance; it brought the performance right into my living room and made it more personal, and more troubling, in a way that I don’t know would be equalled in a live theatre.
The whole team must have really come together to provide such a moving, thought-provoking piece and the online aspect seems to have bent the rules on staging. Bravo to all involved!
