In September, Darren, Debbie and Jonny headed up to Dunoon with The Door and The Speech. It was a brilliant few days and the double bill enjoyed a fantastic audience. Damn Cheek couldn’t have asked for more, so what a pleasure to come home to this review!
‘We maybe associate Uig hall with music and ceilidh dancing but last Thursday over 40 people had a real evening to remember out at the theatre.
We entered the hall to see two soldiers on the stage: silence, occasionally interrupted by the deafening sound of a door banging. Darren Cheek and Jonny Vaughton depict two servicemen returned from Iraq exploring for us the relationship between the values of duty and conscience. Comments from the audience at the interval included “rivetting”, “compelling”, “brilliant”, “totally absorbing”. To that I would add “emotionally exhausting”.
The second play starred Darren Cheek and Debbie Christie. Although written in 2015 it was just so relevant to our policics today. A humourous and very clever script was brilliantly interpreted by the actors. We laughed, we could have cried. A depressingly accurate depiction of our politicians and the spin they weave – but with a happy ending.
Thank you so much Damn Cheek Theatre company for travelling so far to bring truly professional theatre to our hall in a field.’
It was an absolute pleasure to perform at Uig Hall and if you’re ever in the area make sure you check them out.
